Gwinnett Tech Launches Cardiovascular Technology Program

If you thrive in high-stakes situations as much as you enjoy helping people, consider a career as a cardiovascular technologist. In Gwinnett Tech’s new Cardiovascular Technology program, you’ll gain the skills to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating people who suffer from heart and blood vessel diseases.

As a cardiovascular technologist, you can specialize in invasive cardiac catheterization, non-invasive echocardiography and vascular sonography. Nearly 77 percent of these jobs are in hospitals, with other opportunities a variety of other healthcare settings. From working directly with patients to operating and caring for testing equipment, you can be instrumental in identifying ‘the what’ in life and death situations that enables physicians to quickly decide ‘the how.’

“Gwinnett Tech prepares our students to work with people to help them better their lives,” says Kristen Buoy, R.R.T, program director for the Cardiovascular Technology program. “It’s powerful to help someone who comes in with crushing chest pain and then has an opportunity to walk out with a new lease on life.”

This associate of applied science degree program spans six consecutive semesters, not including mandatory pre-requisite coursework. Entry into the program takes place fall semester each year.

The Cardiovascular Technology Program is under the advisement of medical director Manfred Sandler, M.D. who also serves as medical director of cardiology at Gwinnett Medical Center and is in practice with The Cardiovascular Group, P.C.

Other Imaging Technology programs offered at GTC include certificate programs for Computed Tomography Clinical Specialist and Magnetic Resonance Imaging Specialist, as well as degree programs in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Radiologic Technology.
